The first 5 years of life are very important for your child because this time sets the stage for success in school and later in life. During early childhood, your child will gain many experiences and learn many skills. It is important to ensure that each child’s development proceeds well during this period. Therefore, Tiny Tot Preschool implements the Ages & Stages Questionnaire to help you keep track of your child’s development. The instrument includes questions about your child’s communication, large motor, fine motor, problem-solving, and personal-social skills.
A multi-method approach of assessment is used in our classroom. Formal and informal assessment strategies are carefully applied during the school year in order to encompass all of the different dimensions of children’s skills and abilities at that age. Informal methods often fall under the banner of “authentic” or “naturalistic” assessments. They engage and evaluate children on tasks that are personally meaningful, take place in real life contexts, and are grounded in naturally occurring educational activities. Such methods offer multiple ways of evaluating student's learning, as well as their motivation, achievement, talents and attitudes.
Moreover, in addition to the Teaching Strategies Gold, a standartized assessment Tiny Tot employs in all classrooms, I use the informal assessment procedures such as observations, individualised portfolios, as well as teacher's and parents ratings in order to provide reliable and valid understanding of the child's development throughout the whole school year.
